• Universities publish their Clearing vacancies, and students can see whether they are eligible through UCAS
• The student contacts universities directly by phone to discuss courses and, often, receive an informal offer over the phone
• Once they have decided, they add the Clearing choice in UCAS to formally accept

The key point for parents: the student usually has to make the calls themselves, because universities want to speak to the applicant, not the parent. Your job is to be the calm support in the room, helping them prepare, not to take over the phone.

Staying Calm and Useful

Clearing can feel frantic, but it rewards a clear head.
